This pipe of cascading plastic was a group work. It comments on society’s production, use and disposal of plastic. Approximately 300 million tons of plastic are produced globally each year, with bottle caps amongst the top 5 biggest contributors to plastic pollution. The heavy-duty plastic that bottle tops are made from can take centuries to break down and much of it flows into our rivers, seas, and oceans.

 

This damages the life that lives within those waters. Every day we are confronted with pictures of sea birds, fish and other sea life being caught up in our carelessly discarded debris, but our hope is that it’s not too late.

 

The pipe was made with the help and inspiration of Pippa Ward, an environmental artist who uses beach plastic, plastic bags and bottle tops.
